I met up with Shademonger earlier this morning to do some collection trading. I didn't complete anything but...hoo boy!....did that get me started on a whole bunch of new sets. Plus, I had the added bonus of teleporting to Shademonger when he was standing within plain sight of a rare world location, so I grabbed that, as well.
Diego, my dog, dug up a treasure chest, too. It's the first one I've found since buying my pets. (I have a cat and a dog.) Is it sad that I squealed like a school girl when I saw him stop and start frantically digging?
Free Realms is a business, just like every other game out there. Even the ones that are free to play have some sort of business model for bringing in the cash, otherwise they would cease to exist very quickly.
To me, the $5 a membership cost is well worth the enjoyment that I get plus it's far cheaper than most other membership MMOs out there. For the cost of a Whopper meal, I get to have 30 days of fun. The rest of the stuff in the item mall is just fluff. If I want it, I can buy it. If not, then it's no big deal. It's not like it matters in the least if Joe Bob Gamer next door has a bigger, shinier item mall weapon. It's not like there are battlegrounds and real PvP to worry about imbalances. So, who cares?
The only move they have made in regards to the item mall that I disagree with are pets. If you are going to make the pet trainer a free job, then give them a pet for free. However, add more exotic animals that can be bought for cash. Other than that, I'm cool with it.
So, your comment is not going to change the fact that I happen to enjoy the game. I'm not sure what you were hoping to accomplish by picking my post and making what seems to be a completely random point that has nothing to do with anything that I said.
If your willing to play some monthly fee, check out www.mortal-online.com ... It will be a nice game i guess, if you like that kind of games. I just think SoE was a liar...
Quote of an Interview: "In FreeRealms everything is free, just look at the name."
Again, I ask you, why are you trying to talk me into trying something else? I like the game. I don't care if you don't like it. If you feel like SOE lied to you, then you don't have to play it.
Ya know, I was worried I might have been conned into something or was fooled into believing something. I've been playing Free Realms and even -- willingly -- gave them 5 bucks this month just to check out some features. But I didn't think I was lied to.....I mean, hmm....I played a good chunk of the game for free. Once my 5 dollar membership is up.....it looks like I still get to play the game too....weird....
So I investigated it further. Funny, one of my friends kids went and made himself an account and hasn't paid a dime for playing it yet. Weird. I don't think they actually force you into buying anything.......
On to my next tearing apart: Ansis, seriously, if a person is enjoying Free Realms and loves it, wtf makes you think she's going to drop everything to wait for another failboat Darkfall PvP epeen troll fest? Something tells me thats the polar opposite of what she's looking for.
LOL that almost sounds dirty; but yeah, Ari, your crazy Bejewled style killinz be pwning up some noobz in no time! It's a natural progression really....I mean, look at Puzzle Pirates...that game was really a breeding ground to train the next generation of gankers and leetsauce. Sure, the sword fights and crew games seemed innocent...next thing you know you're in EVE online camping gates to low-sec ready to make some noob cry.
funny... You answer to something complete different. maybe you dont know what i mean with SoE or what a quote is...
Why you need to pay for a game which even has the word "FREE" in his name?!
I dont mind if someone doesn't like that pvp-stuff (you dont need to like that in MO, shows that your not informed well about it), but there are many games which have the same content, the same size and are COMPELTE free. That's it.
So, you're judging the game by it's name? Just because it has "free" as part of it's name, then it's supposed to be completely, 100%, no item mall, no premium content....Free?
I'm sorry, but that is completely ridiculous. That's like expecting the movie Freejack to have been free in the theaters because...well....it says "free" in the title!
And, I'm sorry but quotes count for nothing unless you can give a source with a link. People "quote" all kinds of things on the internet and none of it should be trusted until it has been verified. I've seen way too may whines "It's supposed to be freeeeeee" to take anything at face value.
I, personally, never went into the game expecting it to be completely free. That is a wholly naive idea. As I said, Free Realms is a business and business is about making money. When you visit the website, it's plain as day that there is a membership if you choose to subscribe. They have a whole page for it under Membership Benefits. If you didn't notice it, well...that's not SoE's fault.
As rev said, though, you can actually play the game 100% free without ever paying a red cent. So, no...SoE never lied. You can play for free. If you want perks, then you pony up. But, SoE is not saying that you can't play unless you pay.
@Ansis Games are a business. You're usually going to pay with your pocketbook...or at the very least, with your eyeballs (ads). However, I'd like to learn about any good games that are truly free.
@Ansis No online game is completely free. You can't expect a company like Sony to make a polished, AAA-standard product and the expect they were doing it 100% out of the goodness of their heart.
As far as not knowing much about MO, you're right. Fucking forgive me if I've decided after the dissappointment of titles such as Borehammer and Darkfail I'm weary of even looking at another title until it's out and I can try it.
If you feel Free Realms "lied" to you, whatever. It's not making the game any less fun for us, so you're not really winning any point here. You can argue semantics all day; it's not going to make us cease playing the game, it's not making Mortal Online look any better to us and it's definitely not making you look any less like a jerk :)
I don't think I've seen a game with this amount of content, this vast a spectrum of gameplay, for anywhere NEAR free. SOE has such a ridiculously huge blanket of content that they're trying to link together into one virtual world experience, and it's working out so splendid. The fact of the matter is that this is a game which I would gladly pay way more than I'm currently paying for it.
for what it's worth, I really like the game too. I don't feel lied to at all -- they use the same hook that a lot of games use. The majority of the game is free, and the really cool stuff you gotta pay for. What's the big deal in that?
Just look at everything for what they wanna make you paying.

It is truthy what they saying when say they "get you what paying for you did"

Casual gamers.
