So, I bought a Wii not too long ago. The very first game that I purchased for it was Super Mario Galaxy and it has been one of the best buys ever. Let me tell you why - Because I have a great time playing it with my son.

My boy is only 3 but, let me tell you, he's a champ at gathering star bits with the second remote and on some of these levels, I don't have time to think about that. Some of the worlds have such wacky perspective that I'm too caught up in just getting through the level to be looking for twinkly star bits along the way.

And, you know what, he loves playing with me. He sits down beside me and cheers me on as I go. If I happen to fall into a black hole because I missed a jump, he reaches over and pats my shoulder, saying, "That okay, Mommy. You do good job. We try again, 'kay?"

During the boss fights, he gets caught up in the excitement, swinging his own remote around and telling to to "Jump!" or "Get him!" He even reaches over and puts his hand on my arm, leaning into me as the fight goes on. He so wants to help me even more than he does. *laughs* Once I win the fight, he gets up on his knees and grabs my head in a huge hug, pressing his little cheek onto the top of my head. "Yeah! We did it, Mommy! We got him! Let's do again!"

I love those moments. I just want them to last forever.

This story reminds me of playing Super Mario on the NES with my mom when I was little. May video games connect parents with their children for generations to come.
